Somkanta Chatterjee

Co-Founder at Taali Toys

Joining the PGDM in Innovation Design at MIT-ID came at a time when I had just finished my Bachelor's in Lifestyle Accessory Design and was unsure about what to do next. I had worked on a graduation project with my batchmates that I really believed in, but I didn’t know how to turn it into something beyond college. Undergoing this course, I got the right direction and confidence to shape that idea into something real. Especially the Business and Innovation module, where I learned about pitching, BMCs, and how to think like a startup founder. Every module gave me exposure to different areas; from design to strategy to entrepreneurship. After graduating, I got support from the institute to test and build market-ready products, which really boosted my confidence and validated our startup idea. MIT-ID offered not just knowledge or a degree, but a nurturing space with great mentors and a strong network. It was the perfect place to take my first steps toward building Taali Toys!

Co-Founder and Product lead at Forhealth

JComing from a background in Industrial Design and having worked at Tynor Orthotics for three years, I was deeply familiar with product design—especially in the healthcare space. However, I realized that to truly create impact, I needed to understand the business side of design. That’s what led me to pursue the Innovation Design course at MIT ID,the course completely changed the way I looked at design. It wasn’t just about making things look or work better—it was about understanding people, solving real problems, and thinking like an entrepreneur. We were constantly pushed to work on our own ideas, pitch them, refine them, and most importantly, believe in them. Somewhere along the journey, I discovered the founder in me. That’s how I joined Forhealth as a leading member. This course didn’t just teach me business tools,it gave me the confidence to take an idea and turn it into something real. For anyone with a design background who’s even slightly curious about building something of their own, this program is a game-changer."

Co-Founder at Ocular Manufacturing

Before Ocular became a reality, it was just a frustration—a problem I kept noticing in the manufacturing space. Delays, lack of clarity, and disconnected processes were slowing everything down. I knew there had to be a better way, but I didn’t know how to turn that thought into something real. The Innovation Design course at MIT ID changed that for me. It wasn’t just a classroom experience—it was a launchpad. The program gave me the structure to think like a founder, the tools to build with intention, and the space to experiment and fail forward. We weren’t just learning theory; we were constantly building, validating, and iterating. It was during this journey that Ocular took shape. The course helped me connect the dots between design thinking, business viability, and execution. It gave me the confidence to say, 'Yes, I can build this,' and more importantly, to actually do it. Today, Ocular is helping businesses simplify their manufacturing processes—and it all started with an idea that was nurtured, challenged, and brought to life within the walls of this program
